“This agreement reflects these partnerships and the efforts that have made Olentangy one of the best school districts in the state,” ELAINE Eddy, president of the OTA, said in a statement released by the district following the board meeting. The OTA represents 1,264 teachers in the county. Superintendent Mark Raiff said in a statement from the borough that the agreement strikes the right balance between fiscal responsibility and the presentation of teachers that they are valued. The collective agreement extends the olentangy Teachers Association (OTA) contract from June 30, 2016 to June 30, 2017, with a salary increase of 2.25 per cent and a base rate of $39,434. The borough said the increase comes after four years of salary increase, which has an average of 1 percent and included a one-year pay break. “An extension of the current contract is in the best interest of the county, as it has extended a fair agreement pending a critical vote on March 15, 2016 for a short period of time,” Superintendent Mark Raiff said. The borough said it was the second extension of a three-year contract originally approved in 2012. The 2012 agreement and the 2015 extension have saved the borough more than $15 million over the past four years, it was said. Teachers and other specialized staff receive a 2.5% pay increase over the three years. A new teacher, who starts with a bachelor`s degree and no prior experience, will earn 40,420 $US in 2018-19. This rate of pay increases by programmed amounts, called step-by-step increases, based on years of experience and some training for teachers. For the first time in years, teachers will work at Olentangy schools near Powell under several years of contract. At its meeting on Thursday, olentangy`s education committee unanimously decided to extend the contract for district teachers by one year.

A fourth gymnasium, which the Landkreis claims to need due to overcrowding, would be located along the Berliner Bahnhofstrasse in Land, which the Landkreis owns. “A lot of the borough`s latest economics comes from our teachers,” King said. “Especially because of past concessions, the district has exceeded its 2011 goal of not going to the polls for three years, despite the continued increase in registrations.” After 20 years, the increases are made at 22, 25 years and now, under the new treaty, at 29 years. A 29-year-old professor who has obtained a master`s degree plus 45 college credits or a doctorate earns 105,537 $US. A teacher`s sick leave for childbirth has been increased from six weeks to eight weeks. The borough has also begun to give spouses a calendar week of illness for birth and up to 20 days if the mother or baby is sick or if the mother has to return to work immediately after. At the same time, insurance benefits have become more expensive for teachers. Deductibles and insurance premiums will be higher, which the borough says will save about $2 million.

“We were very happy to close the three-year contract,” said Eddy. “Really, for the stability of… that we can plan. The OTA was commended for agreeing before the district`s election in the March primaries. Board Chairman Dave King said the pay increase would help “attract and retain the best of the best teachers.” Julie Wagner Feasel, board member, said that the rise under the iron circles. The class relations between students and teachers remained the same (24 to 1 for primary school and 25 to 1 for middle and high school). The Olentangy Board of Education voted last week to approve a three-year contract with the Olentangy Teachers Association, which is in effect on July 1 and runs until June 30, 2021. The agreement includes a 2.5 per cent increase per year. The teachers` last three-year contract took place from 2012 to 2015. The renewal of the one-year contract was approved for the 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18 school years.
